Qualifications:

Be a current or prior first responder or healthcare professional

* Personal Experience: Direct experience (or lived experience, if applicable) within the first responder or healthcare field (or a related field with significant transferable skills and empathy). This is often crucial for building rapport and trust.

Training & Certification: Completion of a recognized training curriculum. (The Take My Hand Foundation provides specific programs). This training would cover topics like active listening, trauma-informed care, confidentiality, crisis intervention, and self-care.

Have Empathy and Compassion: The ability to understand and share the feelings of others, to listen without judgment, and to offer support with genuine care.

Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build relationships, facilitate conversations, and communicate effectively with diverse individuals.

Confidentiality & Ethics: A strong commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and adhering to ethical guidelines.

Resilience & Self-Care: The ability to manage stress and maintain emotional well-being while supporting others. Navigators need to understand and practice self-care to avoid burnout.
